Mark Spangler, Superior
Mark grew up as a Military Dependent with family living throughout the US and Europe landing in Colorado in 1974 when his father retired. He attended CU Boulder in the Information Technology/Business Department and went on to a career as a Network Engineer working primarily with companies headquartered in Southern California traveling throughout the US supporting Fortune 500 Companies. Mark is married with two adult children and is retired.
When moving to Superior as one of the original homeowners in Rock Creek in 1991, Mark was approached and was brought on as a volunteer and trained as an Engineer to Cherryvale FPD. The southern part of the district needed representation and Mark was elected as a Director and served over 20 years culminating as President of the Board. During his 10 years serving operations, Mark was certified as a Fighter I, EMT, Wildland Red Card and many other certifications. Mark retired his firefighter position as a 10 year FPPA Volunteer.
During his continued service to Cherryvale, Mark was instrumental in building Station #5 in Rock Creek also serving on the Town of Superior Planning Board to both build out the community and get land approved for Station #5 buildout. He was also instrumental in hiring Chief, remodeling two district fire stations, purchasing fire apparatus, passing several mill rate and bond issues and ultimately merging Eldorado Springs FPD to Cherryvale FPD resulting in Rocky Mountain FPD that was later merged to Mountain View Fire Rescue.
Residing in Rock Creek for 34 years, Mark has had many roles serving the community. He was a Boy Scout Master, he volunteered for the Monarch High School Marching Band being instrumental in purchasing and driving tractor trailer to competitions and is a member of Louisville United Methodist Church serving in their food bank and elder outreach. In 2013, Mark was honored as Town of Superior Chamber of Commerce volunteer of the year.
Mark’s vision for Mountain View Fire Rescue is to support the entire district’s constituents providing exemplary service to the district and community at the best tax cost possible, keeping the Firefighters safe in operations and providing them the best payroll and benefits possible, supporting the department’s administrative staff, and building out planned fire stations providing the Fire/EMS apparatus and equipment to support the district as necessary.
