This past week Deputy Chief Sterling Folden and Deputy Chief Jeff Webb attendedThe National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Public Safety Communications Research (PSCR) Division hosts an annual Public Safety Conference . Deputy Chief Sterling Folden spoke in a national conference on public safety broadband use which was held in California. The end goal is to create better and safer responses to incidents and disasters.
Chief Folden provided background to a technology challenge announcement, detailing the Marshall fire. The challenge is to develop a next-generation incident command tracking system. Companies and teams are working to earn portions of a $1M prize to develop a commercial command tracking system that aids commanders, automatically collects data about our resources, and can send data back to the field units about the conditions around them.
