Mountain View Fire Technical Rescue Team

The Mountain View Fire Protection District (MVFPD) Technical Rescue Team (TRT) is a specialized team trained to handle complex, high-risk rescue scenarios requiring advanced skills, equipment, and coordination. Staffed by on-duty crews at Stations 1 and 5, the Tech Team is prepared to respond to a variety of technical rescue incidents, ensuring the highest level of service to our community and beyond.

What We Do

Technical rescues are low-frequency but high-risk emergencies that demand expert-level response. Our team specializes in a wide range of disciplines, including:

• Rope Rescue & High-Angle Operations – Rescuing individuals from heights, including back country areas, towers, and buildings.
• Confined Space Rescue – Extracting victims from hazardous, enclosed spaces like storage tanks and underground vaults.
• Vehicle & Heavy Machinery Extrication – Safely removing individuals from entrapments involving vehicles or industrial equipment.
• Trench & Structural Collapse Rescue – Stabilizing and rescuing victims in collapsed buildings or trenches.
• Water & Ice Rescue – Responding to emergencies on rivers, lakes, and ice-covered bodies of water.
• Large Animal Rescue – Assisting in the rescue of livestock and pets in hazardous situations.

How We Operate

MVF’s Heavy Rescue apparatus (E201) serves as the primary technician-level response unit. Additionally, we are in the process of gearing up our tower (TO205) in Superior to be staffed with two TRT personnel and an initial response level of equipment. The tech team is also part of the North Area Technical Rescue Team (NATRT) and the Boulder Valley Technical Rescue Teams (BVTRT), ensuring collaborative training, expertise sharing, and regional mutual aid when large-scale incidents arise.

MVF prioritizes continuous education through quarterly regional training sessions, advanced rescue courses, and real-world scenario simulations.
